EN – One of the most intense war reporting of all time. Armed with two Contax II, the photographer Robert Capa documented the second assault on Omaha Beach.
There are several explanations as to why the pictures are so blurry.
According to the official version, it was an error to the dark room by a technician in London.
Because of this error, the 106 photographs that Capa snapped that day, only eleven survived. Some say (including the same Capa) that this is a stylistic choice, given that the out of focus is better as those moments were experienced by American soldiers.
Director Steven Spielberg was explicitly inspired by Capa’s photo for her “Saving Private Ryan.”
